Circus Is Coming May 2

The Circus Is Coming - Again! Mark your calendar for two shows
May 2!

Lion Jerry Simo has worked steadily since the 2005 Kelly Miller
Circus to bring this major event back to Nashville.

Plans call for two shows under the Big Top with extra time to
ease traffic flow. Site again is to be at the Eagles' Park baseball and
track field near the North entry to Brown County State Park.

Next day is the Lions' Spring Blossom Festival Parade at 11:30
a.m. from the high school parking lot.

Lion Jack Rothaar heads ticket sales again with other Lions
assisting - Sheriff Buck Stogsdill directing traffic, Don Stephenson in
charge of parking, and Lions Adam Young and Stu Huffman handling publicity.

Add-a-Lion: Debbie K. Larsh

Newest Brown County Lion is Debbie K. Larsh of Old Settlers'
Road, a senior licensed sales associate in Morgantown with the John Evans
Allstate insurance firm. She is a member of the 4-H Fair board.

Playhouse Revives

With 'Plaza Suite'

Good news comes from the Brown County Playhouse and Lion Chair
Gloria Berryman.

The last play, "Plaza Suite," took in $3,316, which is above
last year's final play by 9 percent and allowed us to end the season with
total revenue of $12,185. "We're not sure yet about the gross profit, and
this is 16 percent below last year's record revenue of $14,444," she said.

"We kept our expenses down (although the final tally won't be in
until we've paid our state sales tax), and it looks like we will come very
close to meeting our budgeted net revenue of $7,000."

During the final play, she reported three nights that went over
the $300 in sales, and they were all during near-capacity houses on Saturday
nights.

The team of Lion Bill and Jan Swigert plus Lion Richard and Jan
Halladay took in $381, followed by Lions Terry and Gloria Berryman and Ray
Schaefer with $331, and Lions Bob and Vickie Gilmore and Mel Hoefling with
$303. Special thanks also is owed to Lion Del Crocker for putting together
this great group of workers.

Law Enforcement Team

Speaking to Lions Club

Jon Patrick of the Indiana State Police will speak about his
METH drug investigations to Lions at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, at the
Parkview Church of the Nazarene.

He will be joined be Lion Buck Stogsdill, the Brown County
sheriff, and by Detective Scott Southerland.

Women Lions Membership Rises

After 20 years of bringing women into Lionism, a newsletter for
Indiana women in Lionism is appearing on the web. The first - Volume 1,
Issue 1 - carries this message for women in Lionism:

"We are open to suggestions for other parts you would like to
see in the newsletter. Our only goal is to help you be the most effective
Lion you can be. If you wish to receive the newsletter, send your e-mail
address to Lion Kaylene Souers at amchud@aol.com. We intend to publish it at
least three times a year."

For October 2007, here's part of what it reads:

"During the 20 years there have been women in Lionism, Indiana's
women's membership has risen from 0 to 2,667. This is a remarkable
achievement, but we have the opportunity to do even better.

"In five years, we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of
women in Lionism. At that time, the goal of your Women's Membership and
Development Committee is to have 5,000 women Lions in Indiana.

"Can we do it? Only if we understand how important increasing
our membership is to the success our Lions clubs will have in the future. If
each one of our women members brought in ONE NEW MEMBER, we would reach this
goal well before then.

"In the next newsletter, we will tell you about one Lady Lion
who brought in nine new members. Her story should inspire all of us.

Below is the total of women's Lion membership by district in
Indiana and the percentage of each district's Lions who are women:

A - 423, 25%          B - 327, 24%

C - 334, 14%          D - 177, 16%

E1 - 314, 25%        E2 - 310, 33%

F - 407, 19%          G - 375, 21%

Lion Bob Himes Turns 90

This Lions Club thank you card will be given to Lion Bob Himes
at his birthday party being held Saturday, November 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. at
the Brown County Historical Society building on State Road 135 at the north
edge of Nashville. Lion Bob worked for years as the county's agricultural
extension agent.

It would be great to have all of the Brown County Lions Club
membership turn out to help Lion Bob celebrate his birthday and to honor him
for his dedicated service as a Lion.

            Here's the text:

"Lion Bob Himes,

"Congratulations on your 90th birthday and 62nd wedding
anniversary. The members of the Brown County Lions Club would like to thank
you for your many years of service with the club, serving as president in
the Lion year 1968-1969 and also being a sponsor of seven new Lion members
to the Club from 1957 through 1994.

"Your participation in the many Lion projects over your 55 years
with the Brown County Lions Club earned you an International Lions Club
50-year award for your dedicated service with the club.

"It is great to see and talk with you at the Lions Club meetings
each week. Here's hoping you will continue serving for many years to come.
Thank you so very much from the membership of the Brown County Lions Club."

Brownstown Marks 80th

Brownstown Lions Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a
dinner program October 27 at the Brownstown Christian Church.

In Lions District 25-E1, only five other Lions clubs to have
reached an 80th anniversary are Martinsville Noon, Mooresville, Morgantown,
Seymour Evening, and Terre Haute. Past District Gov. Frank Ruane called it
"a huge accomplishment."

Advice on 'Green Life'

Be energy-aware at work and at home: Setting your computer
monitor or laptop to go into sleep mode automatically during short breaks
can cut energy use by 70 percent. When you're done, to turn off your
computer and monitor - and the power strip they're plugged into. - From
Lions Joyce Jordan-Peek and David Miller, stream monitoring co-chairs.

If You Reserve, Please Pay . . .

Lion Chair Martin Bailey, who directs advance phone calls for
reservations, asks that you please pay for your meal even if you're not able
to eat as planned. The club makes calls for reservations and commits to pay
for the meal whether or not you show up to eat.

From Lion President Jim:

Considering a Fourth Cup for Mankind

During this week's children's moment at church, Pastor Wade gave
each child a handful of change and explained the concept of tithing. Later
at home, Abe, John, and I carefully counted out the money, placing 10
percent in a cup for next week's offering, some in a cup for saving, and
some in a cup for spending.

When we were done, Abe asked for a fourth cup.

            "Why?" I asked.

"We haven't put anything aside for Mother's Cupboard, the Humane
Society, and other places that help people," was his response. He proposed
another 10 percent.

As we discussed this, I mused whether there should be a tithe
for mankind. Maybe we should consider this in terms of time, as well as
money. Do we return the blessings we have been given in the form of
volunteerism? Should we be serving mankind 2½ hours a day?

As Lions, we pledge to serve. We all come together because we
feel called to help others through volunteer activities.

Perhaps we should accept Abe's challenge to strive to give 10
percent of our time, money or a combination of the two to charitable
activities. Lions Club activities can give you opportunities to serve.

Take a look at your commitment to serve. Do you tithe to
mankind?
