Spring Pancake Breakfast proceeds up
Lion Julia Voland announced that, thanks to more pre-sales, income for the Spring Breakfast will net more than spring breakfasts past. She expects this year to net approximately $750, up from $630 last time we held the spring breakfast in 2008. We fed more people (312) than the last Spring Breakfast (300), but we sold 40 more tickets, according to Lion Julia. “Great job to all the Lions who sold the little white tickets,” Lion Julia noted. She also attributes a little extra money to the addition of a small silent auction.
Installation of officers to headline June 15 dinner meeting
The dinner program for the June 15 dinner meeting will be the installation of new Lion President Gerhard Weber and his cabinet, which will be one of the last official acts of retiring District Governor Richard Halladay.
Dues due
Lion Secretary Jan Harker reminds the members that your annual dues of $65 ($90 for a married couple) are due. Save the club a stamp by sending in your dues before she sends you a bill!
Send your check to Brown County Lions Club to PO Box 716, Nashville, IN 47448.
Playhouse to open Thursday
Lion Playhouse Chair Jerry Simo reports that “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will open this weekend at the Brown County Playhouse with the Brown County Lions serving popcorn to the patrons, a tradition going back more than 50 years. “Brush off your dictionary and join us for a d-e-l-i-g-h-t-f-u-l Tony-Award winning musical romp that is a perfect show for visitors to Brown County! Six misfit adolescents compete for the coveted first prize in the annual spelling Bee, run by three quirky adults. C-h-a-r-m-i-n-g, toe tapping, r-o-l-l-i-c-k-i-n-g and full of giggles galore! Who knows? YOU may be invited onstage! [Note from your box office - not to be confused with an actual spelling bee held in Putnam County Indiana].” The Show captain is Earl Eversol. If you want to volunteer, contact Lion Earl. The second show, “The Nerd,” still needs a captain to coordinate volunteer schedules. The show runs from July 9-August 1. If you can captain this play, please contact Lion Jerry. Captains for “The Last Night of Ballyhoo,” which runs August 6-22 will be Harry and Jean Turner.
Fireworks on track for July 3 Fireworks Co-Chair Lion Earl Eversol reports that everything is in place for the 2010 Fireworks show, to be held July 3. The evening will begin early this year, thanks to Lion Jerry Simo, who says the Family Fun events will be ready. Plan to come on down early this year to get in on the fun!
Eyeglass collections down
Lion Gary Havely reports that last month he collected a mere 21 eyeglasses for recycling to third world countries. This is the lowest collection since April 2007. No word on why the eyeglasses depression!
From the desk of Lion President Bob
"WOW" What a journey, it seems like I just started yesterday as President, and now I have less than a month before it’s over. I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone for their support, ideas, comments, and for helping to bring this year to a successful conclusion. A super and gracious thanks on another 'Job Well Done" to Lions Julia, Terry, Charlie, and all who worked the pancake breakfast. We had a great turnout and everything went smoothly. Remember, our June meeting is a vest night. I would like to thank the Brown County Lions for allowing me to serve as your President. I hope that I have represented the Lions and our club to your satisfaction. THANK YOU. |
