June program to feature induction of officers

Don’t miss this month’s dinner meeting, as Lion Rich Greeno will induct President-Elect Bob Gilmore, VP-Elect Gerhard Weber and all the new Lion officers. Lion President Rick Dean will be installed into the most coveted position-Immediate Past President.

Wear your Lion regalia, as induction meetings are vest nights.

July meeting special date, special program

In lieu of a regular club meeting in July, the club will be hosting newly-installed District Governor Richard Halladay’s Banner Night on July 25 at the Nazarene Church.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 for $14. Spouses are invited.

Not every club gets to host a DG Banner Night, so be sure to get this on your calendar and don’t miss this special event.

July 4 fireworks to be a blast

Preparations are nearly finished for the July 4 fireworks at Firecracker Hill in Nashville. Lion Don Altop has gotten the gunpowder, Don Stephenson and the other merchant solicitors are soliciting, permits have been permitted, and Lion Bill Sweigert is banding together the bucket brigade. If you’ll be on the hill anyway, please contact Lion Bill to sign up to solicit!

Dues due

Save your Lions Club $.44 by paying your dues before you are invoiced for them.  Cost this year remains at $65, or $90 for two-Lion families, despite an increase of over four dollars at the state level. Bring your check to the next meeting or mail to the club PO Box 716.

Golf outing to benefit Morgantown Lions Club

Get out your sticks on June 24 for a golf outing sponsored by Morgantown Lions. The outing will be at Tameka Woods, near Trafalgar. Cost is $65 per person. Contact Bob Gilmore by June 15 if you want to play.

Lion parkers point Psi Ote participants purposefully

Lion Parking Chair Don Stuart reported that Lions gave over 180 hours of service to Psi Otes last weekend at the annual Log Cabin Tour. Lions who worked multiple shifts were especially appreciated.

The cabin captains system worked well, ensuring that no one Lion had to make arrangements for all cabins.

Bulb project still burning

Lion Jerry Simo reports that he continues to distribute CFL lightbulbs around the community. Some were sent to merchants, while more will be distributed by Triad to elderly and others will be distributed at the 4H fair and the pancake breakfast.

Health Dept. happening

Lion Jerry Simo told us that the Health Dept. is continuing to sign up volunteers to help at the emergency preparedness drill June 22. Call Lion Jerry to register to receive (pseudo)medication, refreshments and door prizes.

Lion President’s Message:

Dear Fellow Lions,

This being my final newsletter message, I would like to take a few moments to reflect.

As I said when I started, I hoped to leave the club in better shape than when I started. So, here are a few things I believe we accomplished.

1. At the President’s direction several of the Directors are leading new Organizational Committees like:

A. Finance Committee. Dave Miller has jumped right in, and we now we have more input into the Grant Process, and know more about how our funds are invested, and the Community Foundation Funds are designated. Thanks for taking an interest Dave!

B. The Leadership Development Committee. Led by Jerry Simo and Mel Hoefling, this group has tried to document new members interests, and get them involved. He has also helped Jim Oliver find candidates for future leadership positions. Thank you Jerry!

C. The Events and Fund Raising Committee. Vice President David Gerchak, with help from Debbie Havely and Goria Berryman have many of our events detailed and documented. This helps with transition, and ensures we don’t forget something. Thanks David, Debbie, and Gloria.

 2. We reached out more to the community when Linda Welty became our Community Relations Representative. She became our interface to the community service organizations and charitable organizations. During the grant process, she was able to provide more detailed explanations of where the money would go, where the most need is, and where there might be duplication of services with other charitable organizations.

Thanks Linda!

3. Lion Vice President Bob Gilmore has tried to bring us entertaining guests, and programs to make our monthly dinner meeting more interesting. He has also helped co-ordinate our district obligations, and representation. Thanks Bob!

4. Last and most importantly, the members of this club. Many of you have stepped up to help out whenever asked. You know who you are. The club would not be the same if it weren’t for your contributions and willingness to give of your time and energy. You are the core of this club, and the reason for our excellent reputation in the community. To you we all owe the deepest debt of gratitude! I know I have called on you several times this year, and knew I could depend on you. To all of those who have helped me along this path, I want to say that you have my sincerest appreciation, and friendship. After all, we are all in this things together! We are like family, because we spend so much of our time together. That is why I am proud to have been your President. But, most of all, I  appreciate the positive memories you have brought to my life. Thank you for your service and friendship!

 Sincerely,

 Rick Dean
